Since 2017, Save for Health Uganda (SHU) has partnered with Smart Applications International a leading ICT solutions provider on a shared mission to transform healthcare access through technology. This strategic collaboration is anchored in a mutual commitment to digitizing Community Health Insurance (CHI) schemes across Uganda, improving the speed, security, and efficiency of healthcare delivery. Together, SHU and Smart are leveraging innovation to strengthen community health systems for underserved populations.

In a significant milestone, Smart Applications International awarded SHU a grant worth UGX 130 million (USD 36,112) during the 4th Annual Smart Summit held on 31st October 2024 at Serena Hotel, Kampala. The grant will enable the installation and operationalization of a Smart hospital management system in three SHU-affiliated healthcare facilities: St. Jerome Health Centre in Nakaseke district, and Our Lady of Lourdes and Franciscan Health Centres in Nakasongola district. This investment is set to improve the efficiency, transparency, and quality of healthcare services delivered to thousands of rural clients.

With this support, SHU will facilitate initial planning meetings between Smart Applications and the management of the selected health centres to align implementation strategies. These sessions will pave the way for a smooth rollout of the system, tailored to the specific operational needs of each facility. The collaborative approach ensures that technology adoption is both sustainable and community-driven.

Following installation, Smart Applications will deliver hands-on training to healthcare workers, empowering them to use the system confidently and effectively. This initiative not only enhances service delivery but also reinforces SHU’s long-term vision of building resilient health systems powered by local capacity and digital innovation. Together, SHU and Smart Applications are proving that technology can be a powerful tool in advancing equitable healthcare for all.
