BURATS SCHEME

Overview

Busoga Region Association of Tweidhandhabe Schemes (BURATS) is a local member-founded and legally registered Community-Based Organization (CBO) established in 2022 by 11 member community health financing (CHF) sub-schemes supported by Save for Health Uganda. BURATS currently operates in three districts of Iganga, Bugweri and Mayuge located in Eastern Uganda.

The scheme currently has 16 member community health insurance sub-schemes that enroll families within their respective parishes. The scheme has enrolled over 4,000 beneficiaries within the above-mentioned districts. 

The scheme was formed to supplement the efforts of individual sub-schemes by directly taking on some of the technical roles. It focuses on purchasing healthcare, contracting health providers and providing technical support to individual sub-schemes.

Specifically, BURATS performs the following functions: contracting healthcare providers, purchasing quality healthcare services, promoting CHI schemes, managing scheme funds, and linking member sub-schemes to partners.
